Privacy Policy
Pocket Apologetics (“we”, “us”) is a ministry tool for answering hard questions about the Christian faith. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and we don't show ads. This policy explains what we collect and the choices you have.
Reading the handbook
You can read every handbook entry, search, and save bookmarks without an account. Bookmarks, your preferred Bible translation and your light/dark setting are stored only in your browser on your device. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies, and we don't track you across other websites.
Like any website, our hosting providers keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for a short time to keep the service secure and working.
If you create an account
We collect:
- Your email address and password. Used only to sign you in, confirm your account and reset your password. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes; we never see them.
- Your display name. Shown next to things you post publicly.
- What you post: discussions, replies, votes, reports, moderator applications and prayer requests.
We don't ask for your birth date, address, phone number or payment details.
Prayer requests
- Prayer requests can only be seen by signed-in members, never by the public or search engines.
- They are anonymous by default. Other members, and moderators, can't see who wrote an anonymous request. Our system stores who wrote it so that only you can edit or delete it.
- If a request mentions self-harm or abuse, it's flagged so moderators can see it and pray. They still can't see who wrote it. We show crisis resources to the person writing it.
- Please don't include anyone's full name or private details without their permission.
Who can see what
- Discussions and replies are public, along with your display name.
- Moderators and administrators can see content that has been reported or hidden, and a log of moderation actions, so they can keep the community safe.
- Your email address is never shown to other members.
Services we rely on
We use a small number of providers to run the app. They process data only on our behalf:
- Supabase: accounts and the community database.
- Netlify: hosting the website.
- Bible text providers: when you switch to a licensed translation such as the ESV or NIV, our server requests that passage from the publisher's service. No personal information is sent.
- An email delivery service: to send account and password emails.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and posts until you delete them or delete your account. Content removed by moderators may be kept for a limited time in case of appeals or safety concerns.
Your choices
- Edit or delete your own discussions, replies and prayer requests at any time.
- Change your display name or password on your account page.
- Delete your account from your account page. This permanently erases your account and everything you wrote, including replies others left on your discussions.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or ask any other privacy question, by writing to nolan@mybusinessmagnet.tech.
Children
Pocket Apologetics is made for a general audience. Users under 13 may create an account only with a parent or guardian's permission. A parent or guardian who believes their child has an account without permission can contact us at nolan@mybusinessmagnet.tech, and we'll delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted by database rules so that members can only change their own content. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell affected users if a breach occurs.
Changes
If we make significant changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and let members know in the app.
